Rowan Kaiser discusses why political ads on Microsoft’s Xbox Live service might be a good thing for gamers, as gaming has generally been removed from the annoyance of presidential campaigning, and in a wider sense, it’s treated as an escape from the issues of the world. That’s why I like the imposition of presidential ads onto the Xbox Live service. Gaming isn’t a consequence-free escape.

    Yusuf Mehdi, who heads up marketing and strategy for Microsoft’s Xbox business, said households now spend an average of 84 hours a month on the Xbox Live online service playing games, watching videos and listening to music. That’s up 30% from a year ago. Just over half that time is spent on videos and music.
