Indian gaming is at a nascent stage, where you hardly get to see visually superior and gaming titles with a gripping storyline or excellent game play, we have started taking baby steps through mobile gaming platform, considering that mobile market in India is far larger than PC gaming or Console gaming market, “Mauj” was the first brand to pursue mobile gaming path developing game titles based on Bollywood movies, sports genre and few fantasy game titles.

Zapak, the gaming brand owned by the ADAG group is another name to reckon, which has made efforts to make gaming popular amongst the masses, recently we have seen the release of first Bollywood game “Ghajini”, another leap for Indian gaming industry, not path breaking but a good attempt, many game development companies have focused more on epic game titles revolving around Ramayana or Mahabharata or game titles in similar genre, it’s time we could think out of box and started proving our mettle on the gaming scene as well, however it would take some time, since in India we do not have popular gaming studios like EPIC games, Activision, EA or Steam in our country as of now, the one I know in Pune is “Kreeda”, but I doubt if they are into game development, do not have much knowledge about it

I was imagining if we could delve towards a Sandbox genre game, based on GTA game series model, choosing a story would not be an issue, since Mumbai can be used as a backdrop akin to Liberty city from GTA IV, the main protagonist of the game could be a small town guy from anyplace in India, who comes to Mumbai with dreams of earning big time money and making it big like most migrants arriving in this city, not necessary we make our desi Niko Bellic wear a dhoti and don a turban to give it a global appeal, and also no need to paint his face dark tone brown to depict him as an Indian.

Our hero falls prey to the big bad city crime, could be made a scapegoat to some crime he commits unknowingly, lands up with cops, escapes, joins rival gang to avenge the destructors of his fate, tastes the sinful pleasures of power and money in the crime alley, however a twist can be given to the story “Bollywood Style”, he could be made to fall in love too, more possibilities… anyways the possibility of morphing the story is endless, we have grown up watching so many desi flicks, I am sure we will find a suitable plot to our game story as well.

We can borrow a leaf from another popular game “Mirror’s Edge” to allow our game hero to move more on foot jumping across rooftops of shanties, and rooftops of concrete jungle in our city, “Parkour” is the way to go, occasionally he may steal a bike or a car on a highway to speed up his transport, maybe hitch himself a free ride on local train roof tops, can be made more engaging, smaller missions to save himself from overhead cables, yippee!, sounds dangerous, but that’s what could kick in the adrenaline, if we can cash on slumdog fame, our hero can even chase his targets, in a maze of small lanes of Dharavi slums, we can throw in some surprises as well, by offering selective interactivity to the gamer, imagine the hero has a choice at a by lane to chase his target, both the choices can be allotted different challenges, path 1 – make way through a Ganesh Visarjan procession while chasing your target, chase without getting noticed, else the target could shoot in the air and cause a stampede, would love to see our desi Niko Bellic emerge out of crowd with his face smeared with “Gulaal”, Path – 2: Follow his target in a Mall, waiting for him to exit, if spotted, his target could take a civilian in the mall as hostage and cause panic inside the mall.

Catch a local train, another small mission, make way through the human barrier on the door, since his target is in the train, and getting down at the same station, where his target get’s off, again make way through the human barrier at the door, else target escapes, sounds fun?, imagine lot’s of mumbaikars struggling to make way in the trains day in day out of their travel for work.

My grey cells got abuzz with lots of possibility of how such game can be developed, what do you think, comment your views and ideas on this.

Zapak is a failure website with very bad games. It is a failure because of the bad website and useless politics that there is in the company.
The product and engineering teams are good for nothing and do not do anything and therefore the website is bad.
